St James' Park is one of the most iconic grounds in English football. It stands on a hill above Newcastle city centre, about 500 metres north of Newcastle Central station, and its double-decker stands at both ends tower over the city.

History of St James' Park

Football has been played on the site since 1880, and Newcastle United have played here since 1892. The ground was redeveloped in 1993, bringing capacity to 36,610, and a second tier was added at both ends between 1998 and 2000 at a cost of £42 million. The record crowd of 68,386 came in 1930 against Chelsea, when standing was still allowed.

It is the ninth-largest football stadium in England.
