TBD & TBA & TBC Football Fixtures

Cup-knockout rounds, Champions League and Europa League qualification and International matches in the World Cup and Euros, every fixture awaiting an opponent draw or a rescheduled date sits in this category until the calendar is firmed up.

Listings are flagged TBD or TBC or TBA on the marketplace so you can decide whether to commit pre-draw. Regardless of the outcome, every order is backed by the 100% Buyer Guarantee.

What "TBD", "TBA" and "TBC" mean in football

Across football, TBD ("to be determined"), TBA ("to be announced") or TBC ("to be confirmed") are used as interchangeable labels for fixtures where some details hasn't yet been confirmed yet. Most often it's the opponent that's missing: a cup-knockout tie appears on the calendar before the earlier round has finished, or a UEFA play-off is held open pending results still being decided in the group stage. A match can also carry a TBD tag simply because the broadcaster hasn't picked a kick-off slot yet, the date itself is set, but not the time or teams.

When a fixture is postponed due to weather, it stays in TBD territory from the moment the original date is scrapped until the league or competition organiser announces a new one. For the Premier League and the EFL, that rescheduling window usually runs seven to fourteen days; UEFA, where possible, slots the match back in within the same competition week. Existing tickets carry over to the new date automatically, unless the ticket holder specifically requests a refund.

International friendlies generate a constant stream of TBD opponents too, this is especially true around the two FIFA international windows each year, since national federations frequently lock in the venue and date long before confirming who the opposing team will be. Qualification play-offs across FIFA World Cup, UEFA European Championship, and various confederation tournaments are another major source of TBD listings. Essentially TBC is just another variation of TBD and TBA, that is used less often.

Competitions with the most TBD fixtures

1. FA Cup - third round onward

From the third round onward, every drawn tie remains TBD until the previous round wraps up. The Football Association holds each draw live on TV within hours of the prior round finishing, usually the Sunday or Monday following the weekend's ties and fixtures shift from TBD to confirmed club that same evening.

2. Champions League - knockout phase

The Round of 16 draw happens at UEFA's Nyon headquarters the Monday after the group stage wraps up in mid-December. Subsequent draws for the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final allocation follow on dates set by UEFA, turning TBD listings into confirmed fixtures the same morning they're drawn.

3. Europa League and Europa Conference - play-offs and knockouts

Two waves of TBD fixtures hit the Europa League each season, one from the autumn draw, another from the December draw covering the knockout play-off round and the Round of 16. The Europa Conference League runs on an identical draw schedule.

4. EFL Cup - fourth round onward

Starting from the fourth round, Carabao Cup ties stay TBD until the preceding round is decided. Draws take place on television right after the late-round matches are broadcast.

5. UEFA Champions League and Europa League qualifying rounds

Across June and July, the summer qualifying draws first, second, and third qualifying rounds plus the play-off rounds generate a long chain of TBD fixtures, with each round resolving before the next is drawn.

6. International friendlies and qualifying play-offs

FIFA international windows regularly produce TBD opponents, since venues and dates are typically locked in months ahead of the matchup itself. Qualification play-offs for the FIFA World Cup, UEFA European Championship, and various confederation tournaments also generate a high volume of TBD fixtures.

How it works

How the marketplace handles TBD inventory

On LOVE1TICKET, any listing tied to a TBD fixture displays a clear "TBD" "TBA' or "TBC" tag on the listing card, the seat-map view, and again at checkout. That tag specifies exactly which detail is still open, the opponent, the kick-off time, or a rescheduled date so buyers see the same information sellers had when the listing went up.

Sellers put TBD inventory up for one of three reasons. Most commonly, season-ticket holders are selling their seat for a fixed date regardless of who the opponent turns out to be. Second, holders of hospitality or corporate allocations sometimes offload seats before the draw is even confirmed. Third, a smaller group of traders list speculatively ahead of the draw outcome, this group is smallest, and their pricing tends to sit furthest from what the fixture eventually settles at.

The 100% Buyer Guarantee kicks in as soon as payment is confirmed, TBD status or not. Should the fixture end up cancelled entirely, buyers get a full refund within 14 days. If it's rescheduled to a date that doesn't work for the buyer, the same refund terms apply on request. What the guarantee doesn't cover is disappointment over the drawn opponent since the fixture itself hasn't changed in any way the guarantee was designed to protect against.

Calendar

When TBD fixtures typically get confirmed

  • FA Cup draws. These take place live on BBC One within hours of the previous round finishing, usually the Sunday or Monday after a weekend of ties. Listings flip from TBD to confirmed that same evening.
  • Champions League draws. UEFA's Nyon draw calendar puts the Round of 16 in mid-December, the quarter-finals and semi-finals in mid-to-late March, and the final allocation in early April. TBD inventory converts the same morning as each draw.
  • Europa League and Europa Conference draws. Scheduled by UEFA for December and February, these draws release TBD fixtures in two separate waves across the season.
  • EFL Cup draws. Held on television straight after the broadcast of the previous round's late fixtures, usually the same evening.
  • Premier League rescheduling. Fixtures postponed for weather or moved for broadcast are usually rescheduled seven to fourteen days ahead of the new date, with kick-off times for televised matches published six to eight weeks before the relevant match window.
  • UEFA summer qualifying rounds. Running from late June through late August, the first, second, and third qualifying rounds plus the play-off round each get drawn as soon as the preceding round wraps up.

What happens if your fixture changes?

The most common change between placing your order and match day is simply finding out who the opponent is. If you bought a TBD ticket and the confirmed opponent isn't the one you were hoping for, your ticket stays valid nothing about the fixture itself has changed, only what you expected it to be. LOVE1TICKET does not issue refunds on this basis. Your seat is secured, the date is locked in, and the ticket will scan at the gate as normal.

Where the guarantee does apply is the reverse situation, if the original fixture is called off entirely. In these cases, the 100% Buyer Guarantee covers a full refund, processed within 14 days. Refunds are handled by our match-day support team, available via live chat, WhatsApp, and email right through to full-time on every match day.

A change to the kick-off time on the same date doesn't affect ticket validity. Premier League kick-off slots (often; 12:30, 15:00, 17:30, 20:00) are typically confirmed six to eight weeks before the match and don't qualify for a Buyer Guarantee refund. Any travel or accommodation booked around a different kick-off time isn't covered by the guarantee either, we'd strongly advise holding off on non-refundable travel bookings until the broadcast slot is confirmed.

TBD football tickets - FAQ

What does TBD mean on a football ticket listing?
TBD means "to be determined" the fixture is on the competition calendar, but either the opponent, the kick-off time, or both haven't been finalised yet. This shows up most often with cup-knockout rounds (where the opponent is still playing an earlier tie), Champions League and Europa League play-off matches (seeding depends on group-stage positions that haven't been settled), and weather-postponed games waiting on a new date. TBA "to be announced" means the same thing and is used interchangeably in football coverage.

When do TBD football fixtures typically get confirmed?
It varies by competition. FA Cup draws happen live on TV within hours of the round they follow usually the Sunday or Monday right after the previous round ends. Champions League and Europa League knockout draws are held in Nyon on fixed UEFA dates, typically the Monday after the group stage or play-off round wraps up. Premier League matches rescheduled after a postponement are usually confirmed seven to fourteen days ahead of the new date. Kick-off times for televised Premier League fixtures are announced six to eight weeks before the match window.

Can I buy a ticket for a TBD or TBA fixture before the opponent is confirmed?
Yes, some sellers list tickets for fixed calendar dates even before the opponent is drawn, especially season-ticket holders selling by date rather than by matchup. On LOVE1TICKET, TBD status is flagged clearly on the listing card and the seat-map view, so you can decide whether to buy before the draw happens. The 100% Buyer Guarantee protects your order from the moment you check out if the eventual fixture is cancelled or rescheduled to a date you can't attend, our refund policy covers it.

What happens to my ticket if the opponent isn't who I expected?
Your ticket is valid for the seat, date, and venue printed on it, no matter who the opponent turns out to be. If the eventual matchup isn't what you hoped for, you can either attend as planned (the ticket remains valid) or reach out to our match-day support team to explore reselling through the marketplace. love1ticket doesn't offer refunds simply because a buyer dislikes the drawn opponent, the fixture itself hasn't changed in any way the 100% Buyer Guarantee is designed to cover.

What does the love1ticket 100% Buyer Guarantee cover for TBD fixtures?
The Buyer Guarantee applies to TBD bookings the same way it applies to any other order, covering four scenarios: the match is cancelled outright with no replacement fixture (full refund within 14 days), the match is rescheduled to a date you can't attend (full refund on request), you're refused entry at the gate despite holding a verified ticket (automatic refund), or the ticket fails to arrive before the delivery cut-off (automatic refund plus an apology credit). It does not cover a change in opponent, a same-day kick-off time change, or weather delays that don't result in a postponement.

Which cup competitions most commonly have TBD fixtures?
The FA Cup generates the highest volume of TBD fixtures in English football from the third round onward, every drawn tie is TBD until the previous round finishes. Other major sources include the Champions League knockout phase, the Europa League play-off and knockout rounds, the Europa Conference League knockout rounds, the EFL Cup from the fourth round onward, and the qualifying play-off rounds across all UEFA competitions. International tournaments also produce TBD fixtures during the group stage, since knockout-round opponents stay unknown until the group standings are finalised. Visit our /football-tickets hub for a full list of confirmed fixtures across these competitions.

Are TBD tickets more expensive or cheaper than confirmed fixtures?
TBD tickets are usually priced below equivalent confirmed-fixture listings, reflecting an uncertainty discount buyers pay less for a match they can't fully evaluate yet. Once the draw happens, prices on identical seats can jump quickly if the opponent is a big name (an FA Cup draw pairing two major clubs can move prices within minutes of the live broadcast). The early-buyer discount is worth it, but so is the risk. From a fan made platform It's best thought of as buying optionality on the eventual fixture rather than locking in a fully confirmed matchup.
