Officially the Manchester Arena and currently known as the AO Arena for sponsorship purposes, opened in 1995 as part of Manchester's bid to host the 2000 Summer Olympics. Built on air rights space above Manchester Victoria railway station, it was designed for a 360 degree seating arrangement giving every section a clear, unobstructed view of the stage or event floor.

In 2024, a £50 million redevelopment programme was completed, doubling the standing capacity to 6,200 making it the largest standing floor arena in the United Kingdom.
